"CompuClues is
a loose collection of
computer
discussion groups
segmented by topic..."
The Short Description
If you have a question about your computer, ask it in a message you
leave on one of the CompuClues forums. Try to ask your question in an appropriate forum.
Somebody will answer. In general, there are a whole lotta people here who do Windows
sumptin' on PC's (X86 hardware). We also have a few knowledgeable Mac people who use these
forums. In other words, some of the people, who communicate here, know stuff. The other
people will know stuff tomorrow.
The Lofty View
CompuClues Forums is a loose collection of discussion groups segmented
by topic. In general, the discussions can be about any computer running any operating
system. The people, who frequent the forums and participate in the discussions, use
computers to good effect and have become quite accomplished. Among them, they can probably
answer any question you may have about computers. They are are not only a tirelessly
cheerful and pleasantly ebullient group, but they are also watchful volunteers ready to
respond to your questions, at a moment's notice, about why your computer does or does not
work. In fact any one of the group could probably field any computer question ever asked.
The way it is...
Yeah, right. The forum description works. The rest of the fantasy is
modified by reality. Before we tell ya any more, there are two rules for communicating
using the forums: be nice, and know what you are talking about. We only tell you there are
two rules because there's always rules and if you don't already know them, somebody (a
moderator) will tell you when you step out of bounds.
Be Nice. You know what that means. If you need a formal description, we
have a FAQ that covers that. Nettiquette
Know what you are talking about. This does not mean that you need to be
an expert on anything. We don't expect beginners to be experts. We do expect beginners to
think about the question being asked and to ask it intelligently. We have a FAQ that
covers that too. Help 101.
Knowing what you are talking about applies especially to people who
post answers to questions here. First step is read the question carefully. Too many people
don't read the whole description or misinterpret what was said. Reading the question takes
talent. Second, if you don't have an answer that you know is absolutely on the right
track, wait a bit to see if somebody else, who knows the answer, responds. If, after no
expert steps forward for a few hours, you think you have a good response, post it. Oh
yeah; be nice. See Nettiquette
OK, there's another rule. Don't use your real name, and don't
leave any personal information about yourself or others in a message on the forums.
This is covered in The Third
Rule.
About Bitzenbytes
Bitzenbytes is the web site that complements the CompuClues forums. The
information that comes to you from the collection of web pages at Bitzenbytes was
typically contributed by a member of CompuClues forums and may have appeared in discussion
threads, in the forums, first. The pages at Bitzenbytes stand on their own, but are often
linked to, as a reference, by CompuClues members in current message threads.
Enjoy...
You should be getting the idea by now. The CompuClues forums actually
provide good answers to computer problems because the person with a problem gets to
organize and voice the problem. Then, a bunch of people will look at any given problem and
either somebody will have an answer or a few people will have some good suggestions. Some
good amount of the time, a number of people go searching for answers, if nobody has it in
their head. This means that many people are attempting to find a solution for your problem
right along with you. The people who do this, do it out of a sense of community, a desire
to give something back for something received. Welcome.
In the words of our Clueless Leader: "If it aint fun
why do it?. Bring your sense of humor with you. Computer problems can be very
frustrating. Computer problems can become nearly insolvable when the frustration level
rises too high. Take a deep breath... Smile... Post away..." |
