| I would like to move files between my OpenSuse box and my wife's iMac. I have been using usb flash drives to do the job and would like to use the network instead. I tried ssh, the same way I did between my box and laptop, but it did not work. I am not as familiar with the mac os as I am with linux, although when I open a terminal, the shell command line looks just like linux. Could there be firewall settings on the iMac that by default block ssh and if so, where do I find it? |

| After I posted, I did ssh from the imac to the opensuse box and it worked. Does mac support using an x-window gui? |

Mac Is linux based from wayy back in the day, the terminal is almost exactly the same, and mac uses something X based (last i saw at least)
all OS files systems are accessable from linux, AFAIK, there is no filesystem a good linux install can't read.
A lot of linux programs can be installed on a mac without to much trouble, if you search around, I know theres several programs to make that happen, and it might let you ssh from the mac onto linux, and allow you to run programs on the mac.
I don't have a mac myself, and would never buy one, but I have had a chance to play around with them. |

Actually the Mac OS was based on BSD code rather than Linux. If I remember correctly, that while most Linux flavors can read HFS & HFS+ but writing isn't really recommended or safe. I suspect not enough folks run into for example Ipods formatted for the mac to make it useful. |

| Your right, i should've said *nix not linux. I tend to over use linux and not use BSD and unix much. |
